Kinosaki Hot Spring

Kinosaki Hot Spring has a 1300 year-long history, as one of the famous hot spring resorts in Japan . Kinosaki Hot Spring resort was built on the Otani riverside . There are many people walking down the street wearing Yukata (Japanese traditional informal cotton Kimono) and Geta (Japanese old-style wooden shoes) throughout the year. There are 7 public baths “Sato-no-Yu”, “Jizo-Yu”, “Yanagi-Yu”, “ Ichi-no-Yu”, “Gosyo-no-Yu”, “Mandara-Yu”, and “Ko-no-Yu”. You can enjoy taking baths each individual hot spring.

Castle Town Izushi

In the Edo era, Izushi prospered as a castle town, it is called “Little Kyoto of Tajima”. There are nostalgic merchant houses, and historic sites connected with famous people. It still has a vestige of the castle town and it is a famous tourist spot in Toyooka area. There are many historic sites where you can feel the history, such as “Shinkoro” (old clock tower), the ruins of Izushi castle, Izushi's chief retainer's house, the old Sake cellar, and in the architecture in Meiji era. New construction is suggested to replicate the feel and style of this old castle town.

 

Takeno Beach (Takeno Coast )

In the northern part of Toyooka that faces the Sea of Japan , there are many marine spots, where bathing and a snorkeling center can be found. Takeno beach which is located in the center of the San-in coastal National Park, has been ranked as one of the top of “100 swimming beaches” in Japan and one of the top of “100 coastlines” in Japan by Ministry of the Environment. This beach is well known for its white and clean shelving bottom . A lot of people enjoy the area during summer . you can also see undulated sunken rocks which were made by the raging waves of the surrounding seashore

 

Kannabe Kogen

Mt. Kannabe (469m high) what was once an active volcano 20,000 years ago, is now the center of this highland. This highland is surrounded by 1,000 meter-class mountains that express a rich character in each season. This highland is part of the Hyono-Sen, Ushiro-Yama, Nagi-San Semi-national Park . There are various sports and leisure opportunities including skiing in winter, tennis, golf, and hot spring bathing. Winter sports are especially popular, with 4 ski slopes at the highland, many skiers and snowboarders visit the area.

 

Genbudo Park

Genbudo is the natural molding that lava flowed out from during a volcanic eruption about 1,600,000 years ago which formed hexagonal basalt pillars by the wave washing over it. A cave has formed because of people mining the rocks. The beauty of the hexagonal basalt pillars is one of the great mysteries of the world. It is also designated as a national natural monument.

 

Homeland for the Oriental white Stork

Homeland for the Oriental white Stork was built for presenting a place to study about oriental white storks and the environment in hopes that humans and white storks can live together. This is important since the protecting and proliferating has progressed over the years, so that there is a possibility to establish a natural population of storks in the wild. Through “Preserving and genetically managing the species of the white stork” “Experimental testing and scientific research” and “Creating and diffusing the local environment so that humans and nature can live together” We hope to reach our 3 main goals. Those are to protect, increase the population, and raise and return the white storks to the wild.

 

Eco museum center for Oriental white Stork

Eco museum center for Oriental white Stork located in Homeland for the Oriental white Stork , is the base facility for promoting the idea that human beings and nature can live together. We are introducing the natural resources of the Toyooka Basin and thinking about the meaning of the return to the wild. We also encourage children and volunteers to do activities and interact. In the pavilion there is exhibition space and a laboratory, which Citizens Group and Kounotori Citizens Institute use in a variety of ways.

 

Uemura Naomi Memorial Museum

This is the museum of Naomi Uemura who achieved many great undertakings in the history of world adventure. The 200m passageway, which looks like a great crevasse, expresses the vast distance he traveled. At the permanent exhibition there are about 200 items of his equipment, which were used in the Arctic, dog sledging in Greenland, climbing Mt. Everest , surviving the winter at the South Pole, and so on. There are also movie hall showing precious movies of his life. You can feel his personality and mind from those movies.

 

Museum of Tajima Kokufu and Kokubunji

In Hidaka-cho, Toyooka city, there is the Kokubunji Temple that Emperor Shomu built, as the government office of Tajima Koku. We are acting to protect the unique important ruins for generations to come. In the museum there are several archaeological finds as well as narrow strips of wood on which official messages are written. You can also see the three-dimensional computer graphics of Tajima Kokuhu and Kokubunji Temple .

 

Japan Mongolia Folk Museum

This museum, which is in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of exchange with Mongolia, is the only Mongolian museum in the area. We are showing not only the Mongolian culture, but also on introduction of the local culture, open classes, concerts and so on. In this museum, there are about 5,000 items of ethnic material including the mobile house “Gel” and an introduction to the lives of Mongolian living with nature and holding nomadism. Looking at the things as well as trying on the traditional costume, auditioning on the Mongolian musical instrument, you can enjoy experiencing the life of nomads.

 

Kitamaekan

In Edo era, Kitamae Ship linked Hokkaido , Tohoku / Hokuriku region, and Osaka , Hyogo by sea route. At that time, the seashore of Toyooka was prosperous as the relay station. In Kitamaekan several goods used for voyage are displayed, including a restored Kitamae ship. There is also a hot spring facility in the building

 

Prefectural Tajima Dome

Tajima Dome, located in Kannabe Kogen, is a multipurpose dome and has an open-and-shut roof. The dome's size is 14,000 square meters which is bigger than the Tokyo Dome, and has a seating capacity of 9,700 people. For creating a sense of unity with nature, we adopted the system of opening and shutting the roof and the face of a wall, which is the first in Japan . Enjoy baseball, soccer, other sports activities, concerts and recreation without worries about the weather throughout the seasons.

 

Prefectural Maruyama River Park

Maruyama River park is used for promoting the local cultural activities, sports activities and recreation activities. in the museum, planned exhibition is held regularly and you can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, skating and so on at the outside sports facilities.
